EXHIBITION OF THE MONTHSEXUALITY AND TRANSCENDENCE. PINCHUK ART CENTER, KIEV, 24 APRIL – 19 SEPTEMBERLate April sees an international art exhibition open in Kiev, bringing together a bouquet of names that seems almost too provocatively magnificent: Matthew Barney, Annette Messager, Louise Bourgeois, Maurizio Cattelan, Jeff Koons, Sarah Lucas, Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, Boris Mikhailov, et al. As indicated by the title of the show, the concept of the exhibition is centred on the relationship between sexuality and transcendence. Find out more on www.anothertravelguide.com |

ART EVENT OF THE MONTHCY TWOMBLY: A CEILLING AT THE MYSEE DU LOUVRE, SULLY WING, PARISThe Paris Musée du Louvre, one of the world's most prestigious art institutions, has developed a special policy in regard of its relationship with contemporary art. While contemporary art does pay an occasional visit to this French citadel of culture, only a few examples have ever earned the honour of being included in the museum collection, becoming part of the permanent exhibition and thus - an integral element of the decor and architecture of Louvre. To date, the museum had favoured art figures like Anselm Kiefer and François Morellet; recently an international panel of experts extended such an honour to the American-born painter Cy Twombly. PRODUCTION OF THE MONTHBABEL. CIRQUE ROYAL, BRUSSELS, 27 (PREMIERE), 28, 29, 30 APRILThe Moroccan-Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is arguably one of the most talented and exciting contemporary dance artists worldwide. Cherkaoui's art is nourished by multiculturalism and vital interplay of languages. Hip hop dancers; Buddhist monks; people with learning disabilities: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is known to work with artists hailing from so many different backgrounds. Cherkaoui's new production Babel was created in association with the choreographer Damien Jalet; both artists share the same passion for creating new multi-cultural myths which has already brought about two brilliant pieces: FOI and Myth. PERFORMANCE OF THE MONTHMARK LANEGAN, EUROPEAN TOUR, 20 APRIL – 24 MAYMark Lanegan is one of the central figures on the American musical scene of the last twenty years. He has part of a number of influential bands, from the Screaming Trees grunge team to the rock band Queens of the Stone Age. Lanegan has successfully experimented with country blues and folk as well as done some solo singing-songwriting. His music is steeped in darkness, manliness and depressive moods; his voice is a value that transcends time and fashion, just like the legendary vocals of Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. CAFÉ OF THE MONTHCAFÉ GERMAIN, PARISThe Costes brothers, the Paris restaurant gurus, have come up with yet another cool surprise - Café Germain. The café-brasserie spreads over three floors, each featuring a vibrant, playful, yet so elegant ambiance, achieved through Costes collaboration with the architect and designer India Mahdavi. A centerpiece and a distinctive mark of the café is a massive yellow sculpture, which as if grows out the black and white checkered tile floor and reaches through the ceiling. Created by the French artist, Xavier Veilhan, it's entitled „Sophie" and represents a lady dressed in a raincoat and high heels. The head and the upper part of the torso reappear in the upstairs lounge, contrasting with its bright blue walls. Find out more on www.anothertravelguide.com |

RESTAURANT OF THE MONTHFELIX, BEIRUTNew places to go in Beirut sprout like mushrooms after rain, and the latest to flower are instantaneously trendy. The latest "in" restaurant to hit the swiftly shifting stage is Felix, technically a wine lounge. The Felix's atmosphere imparts a slightly hedonistic, 21st-century Oriental glamour spiced up by the decor in the style of Philippe Starck and pieces of contemporary art adorning the walls. No white tablecloths; you get a choice between a long marble table in the centre of the space or either of the two bars. It's better at the bars; the bartenders here are true artists, as sincere as anyone in Beirut. Find out more on www.anothertravelguide.com |

DESTINATIONYEREVAN: THE FAÇADE AND THE SOULArmenia is like a tune played on duduk: bittersweet, slightly sad, colourful and yet never fully explored. It is a place where legends are still alive and breathing and stay within you long after your return - like a miracle so hard to believe in. The legends seem completely immune to the silt of time, allowing it to crumble in dust. Like the unique tiny rock-cut chapel of the Geghard Monastery: you will probably never have experienced acoustics of equal quality: no contemporary concert hall can quite equal it. Even a whisper sounds like a cry here; the vibrations are so subtle that a sound just seems to hang in the air for several seconds. Find out more on www.anothertravelguide.com |

CONNOISSEUR’S GUIDECOMACINA ISLAND, A GASTRONOMIC PARADISEVisiting Comacina Island is an amazing experience in any season. It boasts a unique past and has managed to preserve its authenticity till nowadays. The little island of Lake Como carries memories of numerous historical events - e.g., the war between Greeks and Goths, roaming of Burgundian tribes, and the time of the Bishop Agrippino of Como, buried here, too. Locanda dell'Isola is the only restaurant one on the island and it hasn't changed its serving habits for 30 years already. Absolutely rustic settings with great respect for long standing traditions! CONNOISSEUR’S GUIDETHE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL COLD AND WARM WATER SCUBA DIVING SITESDiving at Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle is a true challenge to those who have used to much warmer waters. It's freezing cold there, yet, using a dry-on-the-inside wetsuit - not such a huge issue at all. You can dive among rock formations and into cave labyrinths, while sea anemones of diverse colors and shapes form fantastic tapestries on their walls. From October to May, the largest members of the dolphin family go to feed on herring there. Sometimes it seems that huge, black and white animals will bump straight into you, and then - on the very last moment, they suddenly move aside. An unforgettable experience! CONNOISSEUR’S GUIDEMOST EXCLUSIVE NIGHTCLUBS IN USA AND RUSSIADyagilev, once the hottest nightclub in Moscow and a playground for billionaires, burned down 2008, and now its place has been firmly taken by Soho Rooms. The Russian refuge of rich and gorgeous has recently become a member club of The World's Finest Clubs. Soho Rooms can be measured up to Studio 54, the New York's cult club of the '70s and the '80s, and likewise, only elusive legends about its wild bacchanalias reach the ears of simple proletarian society. Animated conversations, dancing, champagne and smoke of cigars perhaps are quite habitual nightlife elements, while a swim in a rooftop pool under the stars, right opposite the Russian White House and the Moscow River - that's something different and more intriguing!
